A simple upgrade that transformed my guitar into a brand-new instrument.I’ve had my beloved Jackson electric guitar for nearly thirty years. If it could talk, it would probably tell stories of wild gigs, late-night jams, heartbreaks, triumphs, and all the messy in-betweens. It would also — quite fairly — scold me for being a terrible guitar caretaker for most of those decades. I only ever fixed things when they broke, and my Jackson deserved far better.By early 2025, the tuning pegs had deteriorated so much they barely turned. I literally couldn’t tune the guitar anymore, which meant I couldn’t play it. When I asked a local guitar tech for a quote, he told me $400–$500 to replace the pegs, put on new strings, and tune it. That felt steep for something that seemed straightforward… even if it scared me half to death. So I made the decision: this time, I’d do it myself.I chose these Muscilily locking tuners because I loved the vintage oval buttons. My original tuners were low quality, and the guitar would fall out of tune constantly. These locking tuners, by contrast, hold the strings firmly in place thanks to the internal locking mechanism — meaning the guitar stays in tune much longer and bends ring out with a richer, smoother voice.Installation took a couple of hours, mostly because I took my sweet time. Tiny screws, delicate parts… and of course my master supervisor Rudy watching every step with great seriousness. (A magnifying glass is helpful if your eyes are like mine!)Once installed, these tuners fit perfectly. They look incredible on my Jackson, and the difference in tone and tuning stability was immediate. The notes sustain longer, bends feel sweeter, and the whole guitar resonates as if it just rolled off the factory floor.Final VerdictFive stars. These tuning pegs are absolutely worth it. Easy to install, solidly built, smooth to operate, and a fantastic upgrade for any older guitar. They saved me hundreds of dollars, revived a cherished instrument, and turned a once-frustrating guitar into a joy to play again. And as Rudy will tell you — anything that brings more music into our home gets his full approval.
