I'm upgrading my guitar's plastic nut with a Buffalo bone nut, which fits perfectly on my Ovation guitar. This bone nut is strikingly white, enhances the aesthetic appeal, and is expected to deliver superior sound quality compared to the plastic version. As I’ve started crafting a few guitars, having an additional nut will certainly be beneficial.Replacing the nut is a straightforward task. In some guitars, the nut might be secured in a slot that requires careful tapping from the side to remove, but on my Ovation, it sits just behind the fretboard. To ensure a clean removal, it's important to score around the nut with an exacto knife to prevent chipping the wood.To take out the old nut, use a small block of wood placed across the frets and gently tap it with a hammer. Once the old nut is out and the new one is sized correctly, you can string up the guitar and tune it to check for proper setup. After that, loosen the strings and apply just a couple of drops of super glue to secure the new nut in place, allowing for easy replacement in the future if needed.
