I've started dabbling in electric guitar repair and mods (mostly mods) and keep hearing about how these capacitors can change your tone. I have a 2-3 guitars that could probably benefit from having these to cut some of that ice-pickiness that I get. I plan to install these on those to experiment and hopefully improve the tone so they don't sound as harsh or so I can at least tame them with the tone knob, etc.

While most circuits standardly use .022uF or .047uF, these .033uF metallized polypropylene film caps offer a "best of both worlds" roll-off that tames harsh highs without turning the signal into mud. The build quality is excellent; being Japanese-made with a 5% tolerance, they provide much more consistency than the cheap ceramic discs found in many import instruments. I found the leads to be sturdy and easy to solder, and the compact 250V sizing fits perfectly even in cramped control cavities or on push-pull pots.​In testing, the tonal sweep is smooth and musical. On a bright bridge humbucker, these pull out just enough of the "ice pick" frequencies to warm up the sound while keeping the low-mids clear and articulate. They are also a great choice for bass players who find a .047uF cap too dark for their taste. This pack of 10 capacitors is great for guitar builds, sitting right in between the more common .022 and .047uF cap values. Rule of thumb- a higher capacitor value cuts more highs when you activate the filter (turn the tone knob). I don't know if the Nissei part matters- any comparisons I've heard with different types of capacitors of the same value sound the same to me.These capacitors measure to the right values. Their quality seems decent enough. They're expensive if you were buying in bulk, but the price is very much in line with what I've seen for smaller quantities marketed towards guitar builders/modders.

I build guitars for a living and I've already dipped into these caps. The tone curve is a treat. The capacitance measures right at the rated value and they have that classic orange drop color that is commonly found on a lot of tone knobs. The color really doesn't matter, but it's kinda traditional for these things, and anyone who spends any amount of time building or repairing electric guitars should have a few of these on hand at any given time. These are listed at a fair price at the time of this review and they're fit for purpose.
